During intense periods of Spotlight indexing, Spotlight can consume a considerable amount of CPU resources. When Spotlight resource consumption is high, a user may experience such things as abnormally slow application loading and execution, pauses and interruptions during online video viewing, interruptions in games, and in the case of laptop users, a shortening of their systems battery life. Spot-O-Meter allows a user to monitor Spotlight activity, and SpotOff allows a user to disable and re-enable it on demand.
