Screen capture software offers you the possibility of recording any activing taking place on your computer screen or coming via your webcam and save it as a high-quality GIF animation. ScreenToGif adds to that some very useful yet rare functionality – a comprehensive image editor, where you can select and enhance the various frames, and a sketch board for your freehand drawings.
The program’s main interface is fairly simple. Actually, it is more of a main menu that opens in a small window with four options – Recorder, Webcam, Board, and Editor. This straightforward presentation will allow you, for example, to start recording anything that happens on your screen right away and just with a couple of mouse clicks, so that you don’t miss anything.
As it happens with most other screen capturing tools, ScreenToGif will open a select window when you click on the Recording option. Just point it to the area you wish to capture, check if the size is right, and click on the Record button. Besides, you can customize the frames per second if needed.
The program will move to the Edit window automatically, allowing you to remove any frames that you may not need, cut and paste certain frames, adjust their size, add watermarks and borders, add text and shapes, and even freehand drawings. To make the loop effect smoother, you are advised to add to the last frame one of the two transition effects provided.
ScreenToGif is an open source utility. It is also reliable and comprehensive. It comes with everything you need to create GIF files using the activity on your screen as source. Given its small size and the few resources it takes, I see no reason not to have it installed on your computer.
