Powercam is a very comprehensive tool intended to help you record different types of video presentations right from your desktop. In this respect, you will be able to record presentations from PowerPoint. In addition, it will also allow you to record anything happening on your computer screen. Moreover, the results can be edited, exported to different formats and even uploaded to web sites.

You will probably feel that Powercam is a little difficult to use. However, this application includes so many options that it is worth the extra effort. What is more, this application can be used at two different levels. The first includes basic operations, like recording a PowerPoint presentation and exporting it in your favorite format while the second comprises more complicated actions, like editing or uploading to a web site.

Recording a presentation will be extremely easy, just notice the new red button on the title bar. If you push the button, you will be prompted to configure audio recording levels. Just after that, the presentation will start automatically while Powercam records everything. By default, the resulting video will be saved in the same folder as the original PowerPoint file.

Recording from the screen is achieved by means of a small window with a red button. Just push the button and start recording every action on your computer desktop; additional options include recording only a selected screen area. Then, pushing the green square button will stop the recording. At this point, you will be ready to edit your presentation at will. Other options will also allow you to record from your webcam.

You will be able to export the recordings in several video formats, including SWF, WMV, SCORM 1.2 and Zip files. Moreover, to reduce file size, advanced compression can also be applied. Finally, you may prefer to upload the file to a video-sharing website, such as YouTube.

In general, Powercam is a comprehensive application though a little difficult to use. Perhaps you will find it too pricy, but it provides a relatively generous trial period.
