HappyBirthday is an app that you can use to keep track of birthdays. It can also remind you of other events, like Christmas, Halloween, and even anniversaries or appointments. You can add your friends to a list with their birthdays and set a date and time when you want to be reminded of them. The app will display all your friends on this list and you can access it anywhere, because the data can be saved in the cloud. When a birthday is due, you will be alerted with a screen and some music, and the app dock icon will show a badge with the number of due reminders.
The first thing that I noticed about this application is how ugly the graphical user interface is. There are two problems with it. First, it is slow. There seems to be a delay coming in and out of certain screens. The second problem is how those backgrounds used. They have no place in a reminders app and they make the text hard to read.
I tested HappyBirthday by adding the sample birthday at 11 am and the app did work. At 11 am sharp, the app started playing some music for a few seconds and displayed a window with the name and e-mail of the contact that I had added.
In short, this app works, but iCal already can do this and I really wouldn't have yet another app open all the time just to remind me of birthdays.
