Free ZIP Opener is a simple little tool that does what its name says: it lets you open ZIP archive files, view what they contain, and if you want, extract their contents. Furthermore, creating new ZIP archives is also possible. Besides ZIP, this handy tool can also create 7z, BZ2, GZ, TAR, XZ, and WIM archives.
The program is free although a popup window is displayed when you start it, asking you to register for free and remove advertisements from being displayed. I haven't registered and I still haven't seen any ads, just a black bar on the lower side of the interface. Anyway, this glitch is not the only issue with the interface of this program. It also looks really lackluster and outdated, and it comes without any customization possibilities. I have to admit that it's easy-to-use and straightforward, but I definitely won't call it eye-candy.
Anyway, the unpolished interface is the only thing to criticize about this tool. During my testing it worked perfectly fine when both unzipping existing archives and creating new ones.
It also lets you add passwords to the newly created archives, and set their compression levels, but these are pretty much the only available additional options.
In conclusion, Free ZIP Opener might not look impressive but it gets its job done. It's a good choice if you're in need of creating and extracting archives.
