Extra Screen Capture Free is a screen capture and screencasting tool. The application used to be called Extra Screen Capture Pro and the website still keeps that name, but the program is now free and what you download is the free version. Although Extra Screen Capture Free can be used to take screenshots, it is best suited for screencasting. It can record your entire screen or just a region of it and save the resulting video to an .AVI video. Additionally, it can save videos to an .EXE file. That option packs a self-sufficient video player for your videos.

The application can record both video and audio, which is recorded either from the computer's microphone or the system's MCI. One interesting capture feature is cursor tracking. Instead of defining a region on your screen, you can set the application to follow your cursor through the screen.

Controlling the capture of the screen is not very hard. You simply click on "Capture", do your thing and then click on "Pause" once you are finished or just want to pause. After that, "Save" will do the rest of the work. You can also set a timer for the capture to stop automatically.

All in all, Extra Screen Capture Free is a quite basic screencasting application, with some nice features and it is very easy to use. The quality of the recordings is not anything to write home about, but it will do for very basic projects.
