Xilisoft DVD to Apple TV Converter lets you convert DVD movies into MP4 files. This DVD ripper supports four output formats for video; namely MPEG-4, FLV, H.264 and MOV and a few more for audio, including AIFF, MP3 and WAV. For an app that is $35, it has a rather limited feature set. It does have the basics, including a video player and some advanced encoding settings, but it lacks a video editor and it only has three conversion profiles.
The main window is where you select the titles that you want to convert. When you load your DVD movie, a list of all the available DVD titles will appear. You can convert individual DVD titles to different formats, if you want. You can also select the audio track that you want to use and the subtitle language. Subtitles will be hard-coded onto the video.
In my testing, I converted a single DVD title into the H.264 HD profile. The resulting file played well on my Mac, and it should also play well on an iPad.
All in all, this ripper works well, it has a nice interface and good enough format support for the AppleTV, but it lacks video editing features and it is priced a bit too high.
