This DVD ripper converts files to H.264 and MPEG4. Those formats can be played on the iPad and other devices made by Apple. Non-Apple devices will probably also play them since those formats are becoming the standard. This is a free DVD ripper. It has six different conversion profiles. Four of them use H.264 and the remaining two use MPEG-4. There are two profiles that are optimized for the TV, meaning that if you use the TV-out feature of your iPad to watch videos on the big screen, your videos will look better.
You can customize many conversion settings, such as audio quality and sample rate. You can enhance the volume digitally. You can change the video quality (in bitrate) and the aspect ratio, along with the resolution and the number of processor cores to be used during the conversion.
In terms of performance, the application works alright. The converted files look as good as the original DVDs and the ripping/conversion speed is on par with other similar apps. The only problem I experienced with this app is that subtitles weren't rendered correctly and they looked kind of transparent.
