WinSent Messenger lets you send instant text messages to another computer or group of computers. Unlike other many popular instant messengers, like Yahoo! Messenger or GTalk, this application does not require a message server to do its job effectively and, consequently, it does not need an Internet connection. However, its limitation is that it will only send messages on a local network.
This program will run from the System Tray and you can set it to start during Windows startup. A left click will give access to frequent operations, like sending messages or adding contacts. In this regard, you can add computer names, user names or workgroups as contacts. You can also carry out a local network search to find the intended recipient. A right click will let you send a message, read previous messages and configure the application.
Several parameters can be set, such as the interface language (8 languages available) and appearance. Additionally, you will be able to set the program to play sounds or to pop up a window when a new message arrives.
In general, WinSent Messenger is not difficult to use, although configuring it might be a little trickier. The program is very light and uses little system resources. If we compare it with other LAN messengers, a disadvantage is that it does not allow sending files over the network.
