UOffice is an open-source, Java-based alternative to MS Office suite. Being an independent project, currently, only Techdigm calc is available. This is the equivalent of MS Excel and has pretty much of the same functions of its Microsoft parent program.
You can create and edit spreadsheets using standard tools such as formulas, autosum, conditionals, charts, and so on. You can also spell-check your documents, insert, delete or combine files and cells, and sort them alphabetically, among other functions. If you are familiar with MS Excel interface and functionalities, you will find this program very easy to use.
As I0ve said, the program is Java-based, so you don't need to install it on your computer. You only need to download the .zip file, extract the files and click on the Run file. An MS-DOS window will appear before running the program.
The main disadvantage is that, although the program is promoted as an Office suite, in fact, it has only one program. Also, if you try to open MS Excel files, you only can do so if those files are in a 97-2003 format or earlier since the program does not support documents in MS Office 97, 2010, 2013 or 365. This is due to the fact that the program has not been updated since 2003. On the other hand, I tried it in a Windows 10 64 bits computer, and it ran perfectly.
This being said, if you look for a basic and free spreadsheet creator/editor, this can be a free and easy to use option.
