UltraVPN is a free VPN client for Windows computers. It works in conjunction with the UltraVPN service, which is a VPN host/server that allows you to encrypt your network usage. Usually, VPN clients are hard to install and configure, but UltraVPN can be up and running after simply installing it and creating an account on the server. The accounts are free and registration doesn't even require e-mail validation. The application (client) asks you for your login data and then proceeds to connect to the server. The connection takes a few seconds (up to a minute) - then, you can access the status windows from the tray icon and see the log of all the communications between your computer and the host. Also you can set different options by going to "Proxy options".
The application itself works great. However, there are considerable problems with the service. I do not intend to criticize the service at all. It is free and it works well. However, it is really slow. It is dial-up slow, I would say. So, if you want to do basic stuff while on their VPN, UltraVPN's servers can probably handle that. Streaming video is totally out of the question at this moment. It might be that the servers are just being abused or that there are many users online. Who knows.
