Tipard AVI Converter for Mac allows you to convert your video files into AVI files, encoded using different codecs. For example, you can convert your files to AVI files encoded using H.264, DivX, XviD, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, etc.
AVI files are still the most popular format for video distribution. And most devices support it, with the exception of some mobile video players and most cell phones. Some other devices, like the Xbox, pretty much require that files be in the AVI format. In fact, this app comes with quite a few conversion profiles for the Xbox 360.
The app comes with a nice video editor that allows you to trim and crop your videos and adjust their brightness and saturation. It works pretty well and it is very easy to use.
In my testing, I converted an MKV file into an AVI file encoded using XviD. The process was smooth and quick, and the resulting file looked good. Of course, the resolution was reduced, but that didn't affect the overall quality much. The trimmer also worked pretty well.
For a few more bucks you can get a multi-purpose converter from Tipard with better format support.
