The Golden Years: Way Out West is a resource-management game that also includes many elements from city building strategy games (business simulators). Anyway, it’s still a casual game designed especially for casual gamers who want to have fun in a simple manner, therefore The Golden Years: Way Out West is not exactly challenging or demanding.
I think the best thing about The Golden Years: Way Out West is its main theme. It’s a game about settling in the wild west, and elements related to this theme appear at every step: caravans and covered wagons, water towers, specific clothing, etc. There’s also a pretty interesting storyline involving an iron-willed woman facing a greedy evil old man.
The visuals are not sophisticated but they’re pleasing, neat and colorful. The soundtrack is also fitting. Last but not least, the gameplay, though quite simple and unchallenging, can get captivating and make the game surprisingly addictive.
Cutting long story short, The Golden Years: Way Out West is a simple casual game that comes with some really nice features and can keep you busy, in an entertaining manner, for hours.
