The Core Media Player 4.11 build 452 is a media player for Windows. Graphically, the application resembles WinAMP's GUI, and it is easy to understand that Core Media Player was greatly influenced by the MP3/Media player. And that is a good thing. Even though graphically, The Core Media Player isn't the best out there, it's more than makes up for that lack with a great array of features. It is unclear to me whether The Core Media Player depends on external codecs to play video and audio files. But it played everything I had out of the box. The video looked exactly the same as it did on VLC. It was smooth and resizing the window was easy and quick. The keyboard hotkeys are almost identical. The spacebar will pause and resume video, and there are hotkeys for several other functions. The Core Media Player allows you to customize both the graphical user interface and the way it plays media. There are options for nearly every aspect of video playback. The application also supports CDL and Winamp plug-ins. There are several skins as well. The playlist is simple and basic, with only a file name and a total runtime fields. It is also integrated with the Explorer, even in late versions of Window 7, so you can add items to the playlist by simply right-clicking files and selecting Add to playlist.
