The Bard's Tale is a mobile version of the 2004 action RPG of the same name. In it, you undertake a fantasy quest with a twist -- rather than a plucky hero, the titular bard is a womanizing scoundrel with a sardonic sense of humor. This game offers plenty of fantasy adventure while poking fun at the cliches of the genre.
Structurally, The Bard's Tale is a standard fantasy RPG -- you embark on a series of interconnected quests, with side missions along the way. What makes it stand out is the main character himself. Cary Elwes provides the voice that brings the Bard's knowing, snarky humor to life. Combat also offers some new ideas: in addition to a variety of weapons, your character can use his musical magic to summon companions to fight for him.
The Bard's Tale has some rough edges resulting from its transition from consoles to mobile, but its engaging story and fun central character still make it worthwhile for RPG fans.
