When it comes to cloud storage solutions, the big acknowledged names like Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive, or Google Drive are so well established that they leave little room for other tools to reach the popularity they deserve. SurDoc is one of these less known cloud storage solutions that might deserve more attention, as it comes with some really interesting advantages. For example, it offers no less than 100 GB of space that you can use to store your files online, completely for free. That's quite a lot compared to what other similar services offer for free. Furthermore, the next plans offer additional storage space and extra features for some really affordable fees. Another cool thing about SurDoc is the fact that military-grade SSL security encryption is deployed to ensure that the data you store online is fully secured. Last but not least, an unlimited number of computers can be used with a single SurDoc account, so you can store your data on the cloud while sending it from various locations.
On the other hand, there are also a few things I dislike about this tool as well. For starters, the interface could've been a lot more intuitive. I got a bit confused around which functions and options I could access from the main interface, which ones from the tray menu, and which ones from the web-based panel. Furthermore, there's a “Backup” section among options whose purpose I still haven't clearly figured out.
Another thing that bothers me about SurDoc is that the free plan puts a weird size restriction on some specific file types (the so-called “special files”) like executable files, database dumps and ZIP files. Though it may not sound like a big deal, I can imagine some situations when this restriction could pose some real problems to some users.
Anyway, SurDoc is still a nice tool that lets you protect your data by backing it up to the cloud in a really easy and convenient manner. The additional benefits make it a solution worth being taken into consideration next to the consecrated cloud storage choices.
