Smart Trash is intended to help you manage the contents of your trash bin more efficiently. The application is quite unobtrusive. It runs from the Menu Bar, from where you can easily access its dropdown menu. The commands are very straightforward, so there is no way you can get lost.
The first command, Empty Trash, allows erasing everything in the bin. The second option is very similar, except that it lets you delete only the contents of a given drive. Another possibility is using Smart Delete, which lets you erase files selectively in a Finder-like window. Finally, it is good that the tool keeps a log of all your moves.
It has a few settings, which let you start the tool automatically with the system. Likewise, you can decide how often you want to start a new log. Similarly, it is possible to assign keyboard shortcuts to operations like emptying Trash or deleting an item. Regrettably, and this is just a wish, you can schedule automatic Trash emptying when certain conditions are met.
All in all, Smart Trash is a simple-to-use tool that enhances the possibilities you already have with the system’s built-in trash. In this respect, its main advantage is related to selectively erasing files instead of all trash contents. However, the built-in Trash does allow selective erasing, which is why some users think that Smart Trash is unnecessary. On top of that, this product feels to expensive; it can be tried for free, though.
