SimpleWebCam is an app that lets you take snapshots of your webcam. The application's main window will show your web camera video feed along with two buttons: Grab and Upload. If you click on Grab, a new window will pop-up showing you a preview of the image taken. You can then save the picture to your hard drive. The "Upload" button, which also appears on the preview window, allows you to upload the picture to an FTP server of your choice or to put them in a remote folder. Before enabling the "Upload" feature, you have to go to the Preferences window and set up the client with the details of the FTP server you want the app to connect to. There is support for SSL connections.
From the Preferences window, you can change the image settings, choose where your pictures will be stored and activate a timer. This timer will take a picture at given intervals. This is a nice feature for making time-lapse clips. Before activating the timer, make sure that all the other settings are configured, for best results.
