Shanghai Mahjong is a classical Mahjong game.
This is the free Flash version of "Shanghai Dynasty", a game developed by ActiVision in 1999. You can still read "Shanghai Dynasty" in the main menu, but the installer and the game's window states that the name of this free version is Shanghai Mahjong 1.0.
Like in every Mahjong game, the goal is to clear all the tiles that are piled up on the board. To do so, you must click on two identical free tiles, and they will disappear from the screen. A tile is eligible if it has at least a side that is not adjacent to any other tile. As you wipe tiles from the screen, you will free the tiles that were below the removed tiles, or surrounded by them. You must try to remove all the tiles, but sometimes that will not be possible. The game will tell you when this is the case, and the game will be over.
The main difference between Shanghai Mahjong and the rest of the Mahjong games is that it features a "Kids" mode, much easier than the classical "Shanghai" mode. In the Kids mode you will have much less tiles to remove.
