SD Card Formatter is intended to overcome the low-performance problems that may arise if you use the system’s built-in tool to format SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. In this respect, it is excellent that the app is compliant with the SD File System Specifications.
The app’s interface is not very different from that of the built-in tool; so, there is practically nothing new to learn. In this respect, four steps are enough to format the card. First, you should pick one of the inserted drives. Second, it is possible to choose the formatting mode between Quick Format and Overwrite Format. Third, you may give the drive the desired name. Finally, just press the Format button and wait for the formatting to complete.
Most of the differences between this product and the built-in tool are actually 'under the hood'. One of them is that the app does not alter the protected area in the cards. However, you may need to use a third-party tool if you want to format that area as well.
All in all, SD Card Formatter is a simple, straightforward utility, which has the advantage of being specifically intended to format SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards. However, it does not allow performing more advanced operations, like creating bootable drives.
