ScaleFinder is Mac OS X application for musicians. It allows you to find the scale you're playing on, or the chord you're playing, from nothing but a bunch of notes.

I built this utility for whenever I write a song or chord by ear. It's hard for friends to find the key completely by ear, and chances are, I'm actually playing a well-known scale or chord (No matter how weird you think it is!!). You just tell this simple program the notes you're playing on, and it will search through every key/chord in every key and shoots output in half a second, a task that could take hours.

v1.4 [May 10, 2010]
- Added The Chord Generator feature. Users can now generate chords from scales. The program takes the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th notes starting on each note of the scale and scans through the every chord starting on all 12 notes to see if any match. Its a rather math intensive process, but thanks to modern computers it only takes a few seconds :)
- Added the Chord Scale Finder feature. This allows you to take a groups of chords, and find what scale it is in. The scale finder window must be open for this process.
- Added the Scale display feature. This just simply allows you to look up scales.
