RAR Extractor Lite 6.3.7

Mac OS X comes with a default file compression utility. You can use it to create and extract archive files on your computer. Unfortunately, the program supports a very small amount of archive formats. For this reason, applications like RAR Extractor Lite were created.

The utility doesn't bring you an actual interface. Instead, it places an icon on your Dock and gives you access to a Preferences panel from where you can easily configure the output settings according to your needs. So, you don't need much computer experience in order to work with this app.

This program is more than its name suggests. Besides helping you extract your RAR files, this application also enables you to decompress TAR, ZIP, GZIP, 7-ZIP, or Bzip2 files.

In my testing, the program worked great. I configured the output settings within moments and immediately got access to the uncompressed data I needed. What's more, the utility used a very small amount of CPU resources while extracting the selected archive file.

A thing that bothers me is that the application displays annoying ads on its Preferences window. Also, the Star version of this application supports more archive file formats, but comes with a price tag.

All in all, RAR Extractor Lite is free of charge and you can use it on your Mac as long as you like. It's efficient, supports batch processing, and immediately extracts your archive files.
