Project Reader is a simple yet useful software program that gives your system the capability of working with Microsoft Project files without the Project application itself installed on your computer. This program is compatible with all versions of Microsoft Project, from 1998 to 2010.
This is really a very good choice if you do not want to spend a lot of money buying a Microsoft Project license. It works perfectly with all the file formats supported by the original Project application, including MPP, MPT, XML, DBMS for both Oracle and SQL Server, and even MPD and MDB (Microsoft Access' format for its databases). This program also allows you to work with these files with the exact views that Microsoft Project offers. However, it is required that you use the professional version of Project Reader in order to access all of those formats. For instance, the standard version - reviewed here - does not support the DBMS formats.
Using this versatile software tool, you can easily perform tasks such as opening, printing, and exporting files in the above-mentioned formats. You can also execute those tasks by directly using the command line, which is especially useful for scheduling purposes.
