Poet is a program or service that uses a status message to detect whether a received packet has valid padding. It is commonly used in Mac Protection and Personal Security to protect against the Padding Oracle Attack, which exploits the fact that encryption requires blocks to be 8 or 16 bytes long, and thus requires padding for the final block.
