Plain Text Editor is intended for viewing, creating and editing plain text files. In this respect, the application supports any kind of plain-text content, including code and HTML. The tool is not difficult to use at all, even less so if you have had previous experiences with other similar editors.
The editor’s interface is extremely minimalistic. Luckily, its appearance can be customized. For instance, you can choose your preferred font type and size as well as foreground and background color. Likewise, it is possible to toggle end-of-line wrapping on and off.
There are various convenient features. In this regard, it is excellent that the editor supports checking your spelling in different European languages and even provides suggestions as you type. Besides, you can find and replace strings in the text using regular expressions. Luckily, you do not need to worry about making errors as the tool allows undoing an unlimited number of actions.
All in all, Plain Text Editor can be used as a replacement for your system’s built-in text editor. However, compared with other similar applications, it has some drawbacks, mainly related to editing code. For example, it does not support syntax highlighting and automatic code completion. However, it may be the right tool for you if you only intend to edit regular text. Luckily, there is a trial version downloadable from the developer’s website.
