Picturethrill can change your desktop wallpaper using images downloaded from the Internet. It connects to websites that post pictures; then, it downloads the image of the day and updates your wallpaper.
The application’s interface is nice and extremely easy to use. It is enough to choose one of the supported sites, including Bing, NASA, Earth Science, National Geographic and Nature, and click on the Wallpaper button. Then, the program automatically downloads the selected picture and sets it as desktop wallpaper. It can also adjust the Aero color to match the new background. The downloaded images are stored on a customized location so you can use them anytime.
When I tested the program, it successfully set high-definition pictures as wallpapers. The available sites offer impressive pictures of nature, animals, space and exotic places but the program does not allow using other websites as sources for images. Unfortunately, whenever I pressed the Wallpaper button, the program seemed to go unresponsive for a few seconds.
In general, Picturethrill is a fine free application. As it is so small, I would not mind if it ran from the background. According to the users’ preferences, it should allow them to start the utility along with the system startup.
