Neo Super Mario Brosor NeoSMBis a free fangame developed by OzzyOuzo. The game mimics the appearance and storyline of the New Super Mario Bros.game—it was originally available on Nintendo consoles, but you can now play it on your PC. The developer takes hisinspiration from NEOGEO, a cartridge-based arcade system and personal gaming console. Thus, expect to see the original game reimagined as an 8-bit platformer game.

A new take on the SMB game

New Super Mario Bros. is a two-dimensional side-scrolling strategygame. While it is seen in 2D, the majority of the characters here are 3D polygonal renderings on animated backgrounds, bringing about a 2.5D effect that outwardly mimics 3D PC games. You can gather coins, trample adversaries, and tear open blocks. All the same moves from other Mario games return—including the ground pound, triple bounce, and wall jump.

Ten levels are accessible in every one of eight universes, as you will see in the main page’s World Guide. Select a location on the map, and it will appear on your screen. Unlike the Nintendo game, the screen does not mimic the appearance of dual monitors. The objective of each level is to reach the black flag, signifying the end of a level. You must first defeat the level’s boss before you can proceed to the next world.

There are six power-ups in this version of Super Mario Bros.—the game permits the player to store an additional power-up while simultaneously utilizing one. Three power-ups from other SMB games return: the Super Mushroom makes Mario develop in size, the Fire Flower lets Mario toss fireballs, and the Starman makes Mario briefly invulnerable. Three more power-ups are presented here: the Blue Koopa Shell, the Mega Mushroom, and the Mini-Mushroom.

Fun-filled retro game

NeoSMB follows the standard Mario play: avoid flying fireballs, cross moving stages, take unnerving leaps while evading piranha plants, and try out plenty of different moves in an effort to make it to the furthest limit of the game. The gameplay is still incredibly challenging but also unfathomably fulfilling. The appearance looks more polished than NEOGEO games but still maintains the 8-bit look of retro games of that era.
