In Monster Hunter Stories, you play the role of a 'monster rider.’ Unlike the franchise's titular 'monster hunters,' who seek to slay monsters, riders want todomesticate beasts to preserve the balance of life.

You achieve this with an ancient magical device known as 'Kinship Stones.' It has the ability to dress and empower a Rider's monster (also referred to as Monstie by Riders). However, they are only prepared to fight and kill wild beasts as a last resort.
