Most files contain metadata as a way to make finding and working with them easier. However, there are times when keeping the original metadata is undesirable because your privacy may be compromised. MetaClean allows viewing, editing and removing metadata before you share files.
The application has a modern interface and, luckily, it supports processing multiple files as a single operation. In this respect, to add files you can use three different methods, which include dragging and dropping as well as browsing and searching. The tool supports multiple file types, such as Office, documents and media.
Depending on the type of file you have selected, you can edit its metadata. If you want to remove any tags, you may just leave the corresponding fields blank. When you are done, it is possible to save copies of the original files to a different directory, or simply overwrite them.
All in all, MetaClean can prevent accidentally distributing sensitive information along with your files. While it is good that the application can run on different operating systems, the fact that it is Java-based makes it less efficient. The product is available in desktop and server editions, with limited versions for specific file types, like Microsoft Office, Open Office, PDF and media.
