Mercurial is a distributed version/source control management tool for software development. Unlike Subversion, Mercurial has a distributed architecture, which gives each developer a local copy of the entire development history. This way it works independently of network access or a central server.
The functionality of Mercurial can be increased with extensions, either by activating the official ones or downloading some from the wiki or by writing your own.
