MEO is a nice cross-platform file encryption utility. It can be used to password-protect your files using two encryption algorithms: Blowfish and DES. The fact that this application is available for both Windows and Mac, makes it an ideal solution to encrypt your files to share them with other users over the Internet, especially if the data in your files is sensitive and you want to prevent people from seeing it.
There are three different modes available. The first one, called "Encrypt files", launches a new window where you can load individual files or folders. The next step is to set the destination of the encrypted file. In this screen, you will be able to choose whether you want to create a self-decrypting file and whether you want to compress it. The crypto algorithm can also be selected during this step. After that, you will need to type a password and confirm it. The second mode is basically the same as the first one, but the file will be sent directly via e-mail. Lastly, you can click on "Decrypt files" and load any file encrypted with this application to decrypt it.
I tested the app by encrypting and decrypting a few files and I have to say that I was impressed at how easy and smooth everything was. I particularly like the self-decrypting file feature, which doesn't require you to have MEO installed on your computer to decrypt files.
