MacX Free DVD to iMovie Converter is a DVD ripper that will help you convert your DVD movies so that you can import them into iMovie. As you may or may not know, iMovie has limited input format support. There is only a handful of formats that it will let through. H.264, MPEG-4 and AVI are some of those formats, and this DVD ripper outputs files encoded in those formats.
You can either load your DVD movie from the disc itself or from a folder on your hard drive, if you have copied the contents of a DVD movie manually. Once a DVD is loaded, you will see a list of all the DVD titles that make up that movie. The main movie title, which is generally the longest, is automatically selected. But you can uncheck it if you don't want to convert the whole movie. You can check any title to select it for conversion. MacX Free DVD to iMovie Converter doesn't come with any video edition tools, but you can trim the titles by manually inputting the beginning and end time.
At the bottom of the screen, you will see three tabs which contain the conversion settings. Those are "To MP4", "To Music," and "To AVI."
In my testing, I was able to convert one of the titles of a sample DVD I use for testing rippers into an H.264 MP4 file. It played well on QuickTime and I could import it into iMovie without any problems.
