LifeFlix MiniDV Importer is intended for importing video from DV tapes. In this regard, the tool supports various standards, such as Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV and HDV. All that is required is plugging in your old camera to capture the video signal.
The application has a modern interface that resembles those of other media converters. It allows importing footage and stores the resulting clips in a sort of library, where they can then be previewed before performing any additional action. Fortunately, the original videos can be further organized into scenes, which you can edit separately. In this respect, it is excellent that you can also split the original clip or extract a given segment from it. Likewise, there is the choice of converting the recording to high-definition formats. Finally, the converted files can be saved to disk or shared on a social media site, including the possibility of sending a notification message.
Unfortunately, LifeFlix MiniDV Importer is limited in terms of available editing functions, which means that you need another product to enhance your videos in case it is necessary. Moreover, it is a pity that hardware overheating caused by on-the-fly compression to h264 format has been reported.
All in all, LifeFlix MiniDV Importer is an excellent solution for preserving DV tapes and watching their contents on modern media players. The product can be bought from the Mac App Store. Good news is there is also a trial version downloadable from the developer’s site.
