The Joliet File System is a system extension for Macintosh computers that enables them to read CD-ROMs from other platforms, such as Windows, more effectively. It allows the Mac to access files with crippled names (in the 8.3 format) as well as files that may have been previously inaccessible. It is especially useful for accessing MP3 songs, PDF files with cross-references, Java class and source files, and web content with hyperlinks.
