Gol Gumbaz is a mausoleum of the former ruler of the Sultanate of Bijapur, Muhammad Adil Shah II, who reigned from 1490 to 1686. The monument consists of a large square chamber measuring nearly 50 meters on each side, and is covered by an impressive dome 37.9 meters in diameter, making it the second largest unsupported dome in the world. The acoustics of the chamber make it a whispering gallery, where even the smallest sound can be heard across the other side of the Gumbaz. Visitors can also explore the circular balcony located at the edge of the dome.
