Instant Backup is a very simple backup utility for the Mac. It allows you to backup files or folders to a folder on your computer or an FTP server. The application is different than other backup tools I have tried in the past. The main difference is that with Instant Backup, you have to drag and drop the files or folders that you want to backup onto the application icon. That starts the process.
According to how you configure the application, a few different things can happen when you drag a file. For example, you can configure the app to prompt you about what type of backup you want to carry out (you can set several different types in the configuration window). You can also have the application create a compressed disk image with your backup files, and it can even be encrypted if you provide a password. If you want to save the file to a folder on your system, simply choose the Path option, but if you want to send the files to an FTP server, you will have to supply your own FTP connection details.
Instant Backup works nicely, and it is good for users who want to backup specific files at specific times. For a more general backup utility, you might want an app with scheduling options and automatic backups.
