iMacsoft iPhone SMS to Mac Transfer is an iPhone backup utility. It can be used to not only save your text messages to TXT files on your Mac, but also to save your music, ringtones, and videos to your computer. Unlike other similar tools, this one can't save your iPhone photos.
To be able to connect to your iPhone, this app needs iTunes to be closed. If you try to launch it with iTunes running, you will only see an error message. Once the device is detected, it will be listed and a short summary of it will be displayed on the main window. This summary will show the device name, iOS version, serial number, and free and used space. On the left pane, you will see a list of file types that you can backup.
The SMS window shows the phone number that texted you, the date and the message. Unfortunately, the application doesn't seem to be able to recognize the numbers in your contacts information to display the name of the person instead of the number. The app also can't display full conversations the way you see them on Messages.
Despite these disadvantages, the program is user-friendly and convenient to use. You simply select a text message, ringtone, song or video to back it up to your Mac. If you want to, you can also move data to your iPhone from your Mac.
