iCoolsoft DVD to Apple TV Converter for Mac is a DVD ripper that you can use to convert your DVD movies so that you can play them on your AppleTV. As you may know, Apple devices aren't the most format-friendly devices out there, but they do support a few popular formats, such as H.264, MPEG-4 and MOV. This utility lets you load your DVD movie from either a disc or a folder on your Mac and convert them to those and a few other formats. The app comes with conversion profiles for the AppleTV, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Most of the models are supported, but the newest models haven't been added yet. There are three conversion profiles for the AppleTV. Two of them use the H.264 format and the other, MPEG-4. One of the profiles is optimized for HD (720p) playback.
You can find a video editor and a video player in this application. They are simple but they work just fine. The editor can trim and crop videos, adjust brightness, contrast and saturation and apply watermarks to your videos.
In my testing, I converted a single DVD title, which I trimmed to a 1-minute clip, into the AppleTV HD profile. The whole process took nearly 40 seconds and the resulting file looked quite good. It was imported into iTunes without any problems, so it should stream well to an AppleTV.
