HoudahSpot is a utility that comes as an alternative to using Mac's Spotlight for searching files and folders on your computer. The program lets you choose between various search filters, is packed with easy-to-configure settings, and allows you to save your search results for later.
Unlike Mac's Spotlight, this tool provides you with a great variety scan filters and the ability to save your search profiles (selected scan filters) for later. You can look for files or folders which contain a certain keyword in their names, have a defined size, etc. The program lets you limit the results list to any value you like (for example, show a maximum of 10000 results per search).
You also have access to predefined search profiles which help you immediately find programs, Apple Mail messages, HD videos, etc.
The only thing that bothered me while testing the program was that it ran slowly when selecting scan locations. Still, this doesn't mean that the utility will do the same on your computer. Plus, it isn't a big deal as HoudahSpot offers you the results you need within moments and is packed with many useful advantages.
Hence, I'd say it's worth a try if you're looking for a feature-rich alternative to using Mac's Spotlight tool.
