HooWinTail is a log-monitor and debugger developed by Hoo Technologies. Everyone that has ever administered a UNIX-based system knows just how important the tail command is. This command normally puts in the output a number of lines from the input (usually a log file, but in UNIX this can be any file). So Windows administrators can now be happy to know that Hoo WinTail provides great logging functionality for their systems, including Windows 7.
You can monitor applications, IIS, server and process logs in real time. The program allows you to have several sub-windows opened, so you can view multiple logs at the same time. Hoo WinTail also offers debugging capabilities and the ability to view the OutputDebugString in real time. You can configure the application, so that it will notify you, even via email, if a specific text string appears in any of the logs.
The program is designed to have all the features, tools in the same window as your logs, this means cramming many buttons at the top of the screen. However, this is a minor design sin, that administrators do not mind at all as long as the application allows them to do their job.
At 49.95$ for one license, the application might seem a bit expensive, but if you uninstall the trial you are given the option of getting the application for free if you try a partnership program. Give it a try and you will definitely like this application.
