Use gravity to clean up

GraviBots (SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis) is a free puzzle-platformer video game wherein you control a robot that uses the power of gravity. Developed by RetroSouls, this is the 16-bit version of their 2014 game of the same name that was designed for the ZX Spectrum 48K/128K console. This time, you can play this beautiful 2D retro indie game on the SEGA Genesis or SEGA Mega Drive console using an emulator.

Clean up loose ends

As the game title implies, robots have the ability to harness the amazing properties of gravity. Research on it has yielded a powerful universal robot that can easily change the local gravitational fields. It’s finally finished—however, old equipment must be taken care of to fully close the research program. The universal bot has been tasked with ridding the old model bots roaming inside the experimental rooms, using only the abandoned and forgotten gravitational traps.

The first negative thing about GraviBots is that it lacks an in-game tutorial. There’s no story either as the game immediately places you on a level. You’ll have to check the text file that comes with the downloaded ZIP file to get the controls. The gameplay consists of you moving the green bot to retrieve the gravity traps, reposition them on a wall somewhere, and use them to push the red bots into deadly spikes.

There are 20 levels available. Compared to the old version, the graphics here are more polished while the gameplay mechanics are still fun and challenging. However, in order to access your previous progression, you’ll have to use passwords as there’s no convenient save system here. This can be such a hassle if you’re not continuously playing, as even 20 levels can take a long while if you’re stuck.

Needs more features

Overall, GraviBots (SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis) is a great indie game to try out for any fans of SEGA Genesis console games. Not only does it offer a unique platformerexperience but its graphics have been improved compared to its predecessor. However, don’t expect any new features if you’ve played this on the ZX Spectrum before, as it still doesn’t have a tutorial, a brief story, and a save system.
