Get File Type is a Mac program designed to offer you information regarding the documents within your computer. You can use this application to learn the type of your files and their Hex Header info with just a few clicks.
The utility features a simple, intuitive interface where you can drag-and-drop the document you wish to analyze. You can also load files by going to the main menu of the program and selecting the Open option. After you import the file, the application displays the document's path, Hex Header details, extension, and type.
You can copy the offered information to your clipboard if you need to paste it in other programs.
In my testing, I imported files with various formats. The app worked perfectly and displayed the necessary info for videos, vCard files, images, etc. Unfortunately, it failed to show details for files with extensions like VCR, DJVU or PDB. More exactly, it displayed "null" on the right side of the File Kind.
In my opinion, a Google search would help you more when it comes to identifying file types on your computer. Even though this application is free of charge, I still wouldn't keep it on my Mac especially since it occasionally fails to offer me the info I need.
