General Circulation Models (GCM) are idealized models of planetary atmospheres, stellar tachoclines, and spheres that are solved using various methods. The results of these models can be compared to those obtained through direct numerical simulation (DNS) on a spherical geodesic grid or using a pure spectral algorithm.
