GanttProject is a project management planning tool to schedule and track projects.

This management tool is a Gantt chart that allows creating, editing and deleting tasks. Besides each task can be set up with detailed information like the progress, priority, start and end dates, predecessors tasks, resources assigned to that task, etc. Also it allows to edit some notes and define some columns to add specific data.

It uses its own file format (.GAN) to save and retrieve information. And it allows opening Microsoft project files if the components were selected during its installation process. It imports data from GanttProject, text and Microsoft project files by using its importation wizard.

It provides nice control over the tasks and it even can use the drag & drop to increase the task duration over the calendar. It also allows displaying useful information on the Gantt chart to give more information on each task. Tasks can be sorted and linked to other task(s).

It can manage resources among the management features included and allows to import resources from XML files.

This planning tool allows opening and saving files from a web server offering something similar to a Project’s Office to consult and update project information remotely.

Its GUI is easy and friendly to use. Its installation is easy to perform and some components must be selected during the process; no additional libraries or programs are need; its documentation is detailed and it’s included with the program; on its website there is also information that is shared on the forums.
