Fugu provides a graphical user interface for Mac’s SFTP application, which would otherwise be necessary to operate from the command line. Thus, it inherits the merits of Mac’s built-in app in terms of speed and security.
In this respect, Fugu supports various secure transfer protocols, such as SFTP and SCP. Besides, it can create SSH tunnels. This has the advantage that all data is transferred in encrypted form, which contributes to preserving their integrity and your privacy. However, it does not allow other common protocols, such as FTP, FTP-SSL, and Bonjour.
In terms of interface design, which is after all its main contribution, Fugu does not have any difficulty to use. First, you should establish a connection to the desired server by providing the address and the authentication data. Then, there is a two-pane explorer, which allows dragging and dropping files and folders from one location to another. This way, depending on the direction, you can easily download, synchronize, or upload contents. Luckily, the developers also contributed with a solution to the problem of transferring folders, which was not possible to do with the built-in tool.
All in all, Fugu makes it easier to take advantage of Mac’s SFTP capabilities. It solves a big problem for those users who hate memorizing and typing commands. It is ideal if you work in a UNIX environment and, fortunately, it does not cost you a dime.
