Free GIF Maker can help you create animated images for the web, using the widely used GIF (Graphics Interchange Format), which has the advantage of being relatively light and compatible with all kinds of browsers. The program has a nicely designed interface that makes it very easy to use even if you do not have much experience using similar tools.
You should be alerted that this is not a GIF editor, so you cannot use it to create animations from scratch. Instead, it works as a converter of various video formats into GIF. The program supports a generous array of video formats, including the popular MPG, MP4, WEBM, WMV, AVI, MKV, and 3GP. Unfortunately, though, the tool does not support batch conversions, which means you need to process your files one by one. Once you have downloaded the source file, you can easily preview its contents. At this point, you are allowed to extract a section of the original footage. Likewise, it is possible to adjust the output quality, loop period, speed, color depth and image size.
To conclude, Free GIF Maker does an excellent job at converting standard video files into animated images. It works stably without tempering system performance. Although the program is free to use, you should know that it can be described as “freemium”, a word used to describe a software product with both a free and a paid version.
