FireFly is a file compressing and archiving application. It stays on the screen as a small floating triangle icon where the users drag and drop the files to archive. When finished, all left to do is enter a password to start the compression.
The program is very simple and makes the zipping process even easier than WinZip, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Users can drag and drop one or multiples files onto the icon but the location where the zipped files are saved to is not customizable: they are always saved to "My Documents" folder.
The program now supports Windows 7. Additionally the hovering triangle icon can now change its opacity and transparency. It can be adjusted so that it doesn't interfere with other applications you are working with.
On the downside, FireFly doesn’t extract the compressed archives. Yes, you need an additional program for unzipping.
Note that even though this application lacks many features found in other similar file compression software (for instance, shell integration or file encryption), Firefly is lighter and easier to use.
