Eyeline Video Surveillance has a very explicit name. It allows controlling and managing a large number of cameras, either local or networked. Moreover, the tool has various ways to issue alerts on intrusions, mainly by detecting motion and scheduling recording. The application also lets you decide on the resolution, bitrate and format of the recordings so that you can reach a proper balance between video quality and use of storage space.
It is good that you can set tolerance levels so that alerts are not unnecessarily triggered by the detection of minor motions. But, when these levels are surpassed, the tool can save files locally in WMV format, send emails to a given address, share the recorded video over the network or store it on a remote FTP server. Unfortunately, only basic authentication is allowed for FTP transfers. Another possibility is to watch live feeds of whatever is happening in front of your camera from a web browser using an IP address.
As for my personal experience with this program, everything seemed to work just fine until I found out that the product was actually responsible for devouring my computer’s resources and making it work excruciatingly slow.
In fewer words, Eyeline Video Surveillance is a great product for protecting both local and remote locations. Therefore, it is an alternative for more expensive video surveillance hardware-based solutions. However, bear in mind that you would probably need a computer more powerful than mine if you want to run this program without causing any interference to the system.
