Emicsoft DVD Ripper for Mac is a video conversion tool that can convert your DVD movies so that you can play them on your Mac, and even on other devices that don't have a DVD drive. The app supports a variety of output formats, including the popular ones like H.264, MPEG-4, AVI, DivX, XviD, and MOV. There are also about one hundred conversion profiles for many devices. These profiles are simply preconfigured conversion settings optimized for specific devices. Some of the listed devices are Apple's iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and AppleTV, the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, many Android devices and Blackberry phones, and some portable multimedia playback devices.

The first thing to be done to rip your DVD is to load a movie file. When you click on the "Load DVD" button, a new window will appear where you can go to the DVD drive and select the VIDEO_TS folder. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the DVD disc, it can also be on your hard drive. After you have done that, you can proceed to select the profile and even use the built-in video editor to trim and crop the DVD titles before converting them. By default, all the DVD titles will be selected, but you can uncheck those that you don't want to convert.

In my testing, I was able to convert DVD titles to video files without any problems. The formats I tested are H.264 and MPEG-4. The resulting files played great in iTunes.

To sum up, this DVD ripper works well. It has a good format support and an well-designed interface. The only thing that disappoints me is that it looks like it hasn't been updated for years. The information in the About window seems to indicate that it was last updated in 2010. So, that means no new features or tweaks for over two years, for a product that costs 35 dollars.
