ELAN is a software program that enables users to add an unlimited number of annotations to audio and video streams. Annotations can be sentences, words, glosses, comments, translations, or descriptions of features observed in the media. Annotations are organized into hierarchical tiers and can be time-aligned or refer to other existing annotations. The text content is stored in Unicode and the transcription is stored in an XML format. ELAN provides various views of the annotations.
